Celebrating World Fair Trade Day in 2023
USHER HALL
Presented by a TV Presenter and Fair Trade Ambassador Gail Porter, this concert celebrated World Fair Trade Day and Scotland’s 10th anniversary as a Fair Trade Nation. Headlining this high energy concert are the RED HOT CHILLI PIPERS https://rhcp.scot bagpipes with attitude, drums with a Scottish accent and a show so hot it carries its own health warning! As well, self-styled as “Acid Croft”, SHOOGLENIFTY https://www.shooglenifty.com have the musical wanderlust as well as the rocking electric bottom end to summon their audience to a world ceilidh!
ALSO performing are two talented youth bands: PULSE OF THE PLACE and ROYAL HIGH PIPE BAND joining the Red Hot Chilli Pipers on stage. Additionally, the audience was able to see the World Fair Trade Logo created by dazzling Venezuelan dance group BAILA!
Fair Trade products on sale at the main foyer made this event even more so meaningful...connecting back to the fair trade and its principles. As well, concert goers were also be able to buy tickets for Tombola and Raffle - with proceeds going to Pulse of the Place in support of their fundraising efforts for the NYC Tartan Week Parade, that the local charity took part of in April this year, alongside Grand Marshall Gail Porter. We raised almost £500!

Throwback to the World Fair Trade Day Gathering 2022
World Fair Trade Day is celebrated every year on the second Saturday of May. As bringing much celebration around the world, and with 350 fair trade producer groups across 70 countries, we are beyond excited that after two years of the waiting time, we are finally going ahead with this wonderful, fun and inspiring event! This years's campaign #LetsDoIt https://wfto.com/LetsDoItFair/ is focusing on Climate Justice, spreading the message about the need for more just and fair world where everyone shares the responsibility of taking care of our planet.
World Fair Trade Gathering is featuring not just one but three fantastic Scottish bands: SKERRYVORE, PEATBOG FAERIES and BOMBSKARE who will make sure 14th of May concert will be a night to remember! This 4-hour concert is a Scottish World Fair Trade Day tribute event and we are more than excited to be connecting all around the world with celebrations everywhere from Chile, to Zambia, Guyana to Ghana.. and everywhere in between, to promote Scotland, a Fair Trade Nation, rocking it on the World Fair Trade Day!
We aim for everyone to enjoy a foot stomping night of fun, fiery music and dance whilst promoting fair trade!

World Fair Trade Day Gathering 2019
World Fair Trade Day, celebrated on the second Saturday of May, is a global platform that promotes and engages consumers with the wider Fair Trade Movement, particularly the arts and crafts made by over 350 members in 70 countries.
Every year there are numerous events happening around the globe in celebration of the above special day, and here in Scotland we will be gathering at Usher Hall for a 6 hour (5pm - 11pm) world music concert and ceilidh to celebrate World Fair Trade Day and Scotland as a Fair Trade Nation, showcasing a mix of local talent and international music as well as almighty ceilidh; stalls selling Fair Trade crafts, artisan goods and snacks; and messages on screen from World Fair Trade Organisations (WFTOs) from around the globe representing WTFO members, etc.
The World Fair Trade Gathering is being compered by celebrity presenter and journalist, as well long standing committed Fair Trade Ambassador Gail Porter and recently announced co-presenter Eunice Olumide MBE – Scottish supermodel, broadcaster and curator.
The line-up for the concert and ceilidh will include local, up and coming Leith samba band Pulse of the Place; lively Glasgow based Colonel Mustard & The Dijon 5 with alternative dance music; inspiring Scottish folk musician Rachel Sermanni; The Reel Time Ceilidh Band, a rapturous and foot stomping ceilidh band with a contemporary twist; rock & roll masters hot off the press from New York Miracle Glass Company; Indie band Zuba, an outstanding multi-cultural band with a great dance beat; rousing and rhythmical Get Soul Choir; award winning Irish dance performance specialists SiamSoir and piping magic from World Fair Trade piper Lou Marshall and her exhilarating Celtic fusion band Cantara.

FAIR TRADE FIESTA 2017
Fair Trade Fiesta 2017 involved people of all ages, cultures and backgrounds and aimed to raise more awareness of World Fair Trade Day and Scotlands' Fair Trade Nation status and of the Fair Trade Movement - through a vivid Carnival Parade and engaging FREE five hour Concert with Red Hot Chilli Pipers headlining the event, and over 200 performers on board.
The event was delighted to welcome Fair Trade Ambassador, broadcaster & journalist Gail Porter as well President of the World Fair Trade Organisation, Rudi Dalvai, attending from Italy. With a fantastic Carnival Parade from The City Chambers in the heart of The Royal Mile, going down to Princes Street Gardens, second part of the event was a FREE five hour world music concert , with amazing performers: Got Soul, Cantara, Red Hot Chilli Pipers, Zuba, Kyle and the Radix, Daniel Allinson, Nadia Alkoc, Davidson Mains Pipe Band and Pulse of the Place, as well over 200 performers and speakers including Minister for Europe and International Development Dr. Alasdair Allan, President Dalvai. What makes Fair Trade helps farmers and producers all around the world to obtain fair prices for their goods while also supporting better working conditions. We believe in fairer more sustainable practises that Fair Trade aspires to and we therefore feel strongly that platforming such an engaging event will not only provide people with positive and uplifting experience, but will also educate and inspire consumers to keep buying and supporting the Fair Trade. Fair Trade Fiesta was so proud to celebrate Scotland's Fair Trade Nation renewal status that saw young people, schools and universities, interfaith groups, community groups, disability groups, Fair Trade organisations/businesses and individuals joining that fantastic occasion! |
